Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Requiem KV 626
Nicola Proksch · Anna Manske · Jakob Gerbeth · Jan Martiník · Conductor: Christoph Ehrenfellner

Artistic focus and current projects
Art song and oratorio are especially close to Jakob Gerbeth’s heart. Performing works from this repertoire has taken the Viennese tenor to internationally renowned venues including Vienna’s Konzerthaus and Musikverein. In March 2025, at the age of 24, he made his debut at the latter as a soloist in Monteverdi’s Vespers. From 2018, he was a regular member of Momentum Vocal Music, a vocal ensemble with predominantly one singer per part, with which he appeared at the Carinthischer Sommer festival in 2021. Since 2022, he has been a member of the vocal soloists’ ensemble Company of Music.
In 2020, he began studying concert singing with Professor Margit Klaushofer at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Since 2024, he has been pursuing a master’s degree in Lied, studying with Professor Margit Klaushofer, Professor Michael Schade and Professor Florian Boesch. His teachers also included Professor Justus Zeyen (1963–2025), who passed away in December 2025.
In summer 2026, he appeared in “Sophia – der Preis der Freiheit” at the donauFESTWOCHEN at Schloss Greinburg. Featuring music by Johann Sebastian Bach, the production brought together Company of Music and L’Orfeo Barockorchester under Johannes Hiemetsberger.
His concert appearances over the past year include Bach’s Christmas Oratorio at Vienna’s Franziskanerkirche and the St John Passion at St Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, as well as performances with Barucco under Heinz Ferlesch in Raiding and Melk. In December 2025, he sang in Charpentier’s “Te Deum” and Bach’s “Magnificat” at the Valentinum in St. Valentin and the Festspielhaus St. Pölten. At the 2026 Carinthischer Sommer, he performed in Handel’s “Messiah” with Company of Music and the orchestra Concerto Stella Matutina under Johannes Hiemetsberger. That year, he also sang in Monteverdi’s Vespers with cappella nova Graz vocale e strumentale under Otto Kargl in Seckau and Lilienfeld. The Lilienfeld recording will be broadcast on Ö1 on 8 December 2026 at 19:30.
An international highlight was his appearance in 2026 with the period-instrument orchestra Barucco under Heinz Ferlesch at Madrid’s Auditorio Nacional de Música. The programme centred on Mozart’s Requiem was recorded for television and broadcast on ORF III on Palm Sunday, 29 March 2026, as “Osterklänge aus Madrid”.
The next concert
His autumn and winter 2026 engagements include two concerts entitled “Morimur” with Company of Music in Waidhofen an der Ybbs, the world premiere of Wolfgang Mitterer’s “Der böse Fürst” in Vienna, and the concert “Dona nobis pacem”, featuring Wolfram Wagner’s “Domine”, at Vienna’s Lutherkirche Währing. December brings performances of Handel’s “Messiah” in Götzis, Weingarten and Vienna. In March 2027, he is announced in Domenico Scarlatti’s “Stabat Mater” with Company of Music at the Easter Festival in Vienna’s Hofburgkapelle.
Musical background
Jakob Gerbeth began his musical training at the age of six. Alongside cello lessons at Vienna’s Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Musikschule, choral singing became his great passion. His voice received professional training in the children’s choir of the Wiener Chorschule at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He took on solo parts there from an early age.
Between 2018 and 2021, he sang in the chorus of Oper Klosterneuburg in “La traviata” and “The Tales of Hoffmann”, and at Operette Langenlois in “Die Fledermaus”.
In 2022, during his bachelor’s studies, he made his solo operatic debut as Floridoro / Feraspe at the donauFESTWOCHEN at Schloss Greinburg. In February 2023, he sang his first Don Ottavio in “Don Giovanni” in Wałbrzych, Poland. His role debut as Alfred in “Die Fledermaus” followed in May of that year. In 2023, he returned to the donauFESTWOCHEN as Gomatz in Mozart’s “Zaide”. His further stage roles include the Prologue in “The Turn of the Screw”.
In March 2023, he performed “Die schöne Müllerin” with Professor Manfred Schiebel. He made his debut as the Evangelist in Bach’s Christmas Oratorio in December 2023, followed by his debut as an aria soloist in the St Matthew Passion at the “Imago Dei” festival in March 2024.
